He grew up in Havertown, attended both St. Denis and Annunciation parish schools, graduated from the College of Holy Cross and has a master’s degree in classical studies from Indiana University. Before earning his law degree from Temple University, Mike taught Latin and ancient Greek at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Mike currently lives in Drexel Hill with his wife and two young children.
Delco Democrats from the 163rd district strongly endorsed Zabel’s candidacy at the Delco Dems Nominating Convention on February18, 2018.
In his “Why I’m Running” on his campaign website, Zabel describes his frustration with “a state government run by Republicans from districts in central and western Pennsylvania, hundreds of miles away. These guys don’t care about Delaware County, and our local Republican politicians can't (or won't) stand up to their bosses.
“It isn’t fair to Havertown, Drexel Hill, Clifton Heights, and Aldan. Our taxes are too high, our schools are underfunded, and it seems like every other day there’s a new cut in public services, or an attack on environmental protections. Enough is enough.
“I want to go to Harrisburg and fight for you, so I’m asking for your support.
“Here’s what I’ll promise you: I’m not beholden to any special interests. You get me, not somebody who faithfully obeys party bosses or is owned by deep-pocketed donors. I’ll fight for what is best for our hometowns. Delaware County will take a backseat to no one.”
