On the ballot this November are the retention votes for our state Supreme Court Justices, and they are of the utmost importance.

In Pennsylvania, elected judges must face a retention vote every ten years, intended to hold them accountable. A majority of “yes” votes will keep them in office, whereas a majority of “no” votes means that they will lose their seat and the governor must appoint someone to fill their office, which must be voted upon by the Republican-controlled State Senate. State, county, and local Democratic committees strongly support voting “yes” to retain Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht.

Recent years have underscored the importance of our State Supreme Court justices in particular, who protect voting rights, reproductive rights, and other civil rights. Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht have all been part of decisions important to Pennsylvanians’ wellbeing. A tremendous amount of money and time is being spent by rich Republican donors to unseat these judges and move Pennsylvania further to the right, and this is shaping up to be a race the nation will watch. Please vote yes in November to protect Pennsylvania and retain Justices Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht, and spread the word to your friends and family.

We cannot let the Republicans take back the State Supreme Court.

Additionally, Alice Beck Dubow is up for retention for PA Superior Court and Michael H. Wojcik is up for PA Commonwealth Court. It’s equally important that we bring in the Democratic vote for Judge Brandon Neuman for PA Superior Court and Judge Stella Tsai for PA Commonwealth Court.
