Ward Organizations

Haverford Township is organized into NINE Wards of roughly equal population (and ward lines are re-drawn after every U.S. Census). Under Pennsylvania law, we are a Home Rule township and are governed by a Board of Commissioners, with one commissioner elected from each ward. As of 2022, there are 6 Democrats on the 9-member Board of Commissioners:

  • Sheryl Forste Grupp, Ward 2
  • Kevin McCloskey, Ward 3
  • Judy Trombetta, Ward 4
  • Laura Cavender, Ward 5
  • Larry Holmes, Ward 6
  • Gerry Hart, Ward 8

Experience shows that the presence of more Democrats on the township commission improves responsiveness to citizen concerns about diversity, the environment, government transparency, and the library.

Precinct: Each ward is divided into 4 precincts. This is the smallest political unit and has its own polling location. Democratic Party Committee are elected by ward and precinct. Learn more about ‘Committee.’

Ward Leader: The Democratic Committee members in each ward elect a ward leader whose duty is to coordinate the activities of the Committee in all 4 precincts. Ward leaders organize canvassing schedules and work with Committee to recruit volunteers to canvass neighbors about candidates and getting out the vote. Ward leaders also recruit Democrats to work at each precinct’s polling site on election day, staffing 3-hour shifts with two Democrats so we have a strong presence at the polls. If you want to volunteer to help the Democratic Party in your neighborhood, contact your ward leader using the directory below. You can find out what ward you live in by referring to this ward map or, if you know were you vote, by identifying your ward by your voting location .
