HTDems Committee

Like Democratic Party organizations all over the U.S., the HTDems are led by our Committee members, who are chosen from their individual wards and precincts.

The job of Committee: They canvass their neighborhood Democrats to share information about candidates and encourage voting. Committee members also work with their ward leaders to recruit volunteers to canvass a few blocks in the precinct at election time. Committee members staff the polls on election day, serving as “poll watchers” and “greeters.” As well, they recruit other Democrats in the precinct to work a shift at the local polling site so that Haverford voters know there is a Democratic presence in their neighborhood.

Committee members are also tasked with vetting Democratic candidates competing in primary elections. They invite candidates to speak at HTDems’ meetings, they often meet personally with them or stage “meet & greet” events so they know the candidates before the county nominating convention where one candidate hopes to win Democratic endorsement before the primary election. Committee members are eligible to vote on endorsements. They also have voting rights in local party policy decisions and in local party leadership elections.

The number of Committee: Haverford Township is comprised of 9 wards, and every ward has 4 precincts. Every precinct elects 2 Committee in off-year primary elections. They serve 4-year terms. So a full slate of elected Committee in Haverford Township has 72 members. Committee can be larger than that, however, because up to two more Democrats in each precinct can be appointed to Committee. A Ward leader may be a Committee member but does not have to be.

Below is a list of Ward Leaders and Committee, organized by ward and precinct. Feel free to contact your ward leader any time. You can find out what ward you live in by referring to this ward map or, if you know were you vote, by identifying your ward by your voting location.
